Our Basic Policy on Human Rights shall be positioned as the highest priority on human rights in business activities within WELCO.
WELCO expects all business partners including suppliers to comprehend and adhere to this policy in order to realize our commitment to human rights in our business activities.
WELCO adheres to the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” the “OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises” and the “International Labor Organization (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work”, and promotes efforts toward respect for human rights in accordance with the United Nations’ “Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.”
Further, WELCO complies with the laws and regulations on human rights in each respective country and region where we conduct business activities.
WELCO will follow the higher standard if laws and regulations of a country or region differ from internationally recognized human rights standards, and in the case of a conflict, we will make every effort to respect internationally recognized human rights.
WELCO believes it’s important to make efforts on the following human rights issues which are related to WELCO’s business activities:
WELCO will not tolerate any discrimination, for whatever reason, nor any action to undermine the dignity of individuals in respect of nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, creed, age, gender, disability, marital status, parental status, employment status, etc.
WELCO will not tolerate any type of harassment, such as sexual harassment and power harassment, and any conduct that harms people, whether mentally or physically.
WELCO will not tolerate any form of modern slavery, including human trafficking, or any form of forced labor through use of violence, threat, debt, or other means.
WELCO will not tolerate any child labor that deprives children of educational opportunities and impedes their development. WELCO recognizes the concern about human rights abuses, such as child labor in mineral mining. WELCO will promote identification and evaluation of the risks of human rights issues, such as child labor, and take appropriate measures to reduce the risks if such risks are identified.
WELCO will strive to grasp our entire supply chain, including business partners and their subcontractors. WELCO will share its policy on human rights with suppliers, and review and evaluate their status of compliance. Additionally, WELCO will collaborate with stakeholders other than suppliers in order to promote respect for human rights in our entire supply chain.
WELCO will review the laws and regulations regarding safety and health in the workplace and our operational status, thus establishing a safe and healthy work environment.
Practice of human rights due diligence: In accordance with the “United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights,” WELCO will strive to establish a system of human rights due diligence in order to fulfill our responsibility to respect human rights, and execute due diligence to identify, prevent and mitigate negative impacts on human rights related to our business activities.
If it becomes clear that WELCO’s business activities have caused a negative impact on human rights, WELCO will review the issue based on international standards, take remedial measures, make efforts to correct the problem in a proper manner, and make efforts to prevent recurrence. Additionally, WELCO will safeguard any whistle-blower and/or person who made the report or consultation from being treated disadvantageously as a result.
WELCO will provide appropriate education to our officers and employees, including employees under employment contracts and others, as well as temporary workers, so that this policy can be fully understood and practiced in our business activities. WELCO will also keep business partners, suppliers and their related persons informed of this policy.
WELCO will review and improve this policy on human rights continuously.
